10 Août 1991-Mavoloha :

Toa tsy nisy nahatsiaro io tantara io teto amin’ny MT androany ! Raha tsy diso koa izahay, toa tsy misy tsangambato mba tsy hanadinoana azy tahaka ny nihazakazahana natao ny amin’ny 7 Febroary 2009 ! Araka ny nambaran’ny mpandray anjara iray eto hoe :

« Ravalo ve ?...TSY MILA RAVALOMAMONO NY MALAGASY »

Kanefa toa tsy mba fantany kosa ny famonoana Malagasy nataon’Ingahy RATSIRAKA Didier sy ny tafika teo ambany fahefany tamin’ny 10 Aôgositra 1991 teny Mavoloha.

Madagascar : Carnage du 10 Aout 1991
Transcription

’’Political murder of the day’’

Protestors in Madagascar before being shot by palace guards.

Aug. 10, 1991 : Up to 130 protestors were killed and several hundred were wounded when they were shot by palace guards in riots in Madagascar.

Roughly 400,000 people marched on the presidential palace outside the capital city of Antananarivo. In mass demonstrations and a two-week civil service strike that paralyzed the capital, people demanded the resignation of President Didier Ratsiraka, a military commander who had taken power in the country in 1975 but had become increasingly unpopular.

The most recent election in 1989 was marred by charges of ELECTION FRAUD by the Ratsiraka forces. By May 1991, there were GENERAL STRIKES all over the country, shutting down banks and businesses, and demonstrations intensified in July and August.

On Aug. 10, as demonstrators marched to the presidential palace, presidential guards responded with grenades and bullets. Estimates of the dead ranged from 31 to 130.[...]

Palace Massacre in Madagascar 1991
Popular discontent with the Ratsiraka regime heightened on August 10, 1991, when more than 400,000 citizens marched peacefully on the President’s Palace in order to oust the Ratsiraka government and create a new multiparty political system. Ratsiraka already faced an economy crippled by a general strike that had begun in May, as well as a divided and restless military whose loyalty no longer could be assumed. When the Presidential Guard opened fire on the marchers and killed and wounded HUNDREDS , a crisis of leadership occurred....

Hoy ny ’’Human Rights Watch’’ ny amin’ny tsy tokony hanadinoina ny heloka be vava tahaka ireny sy ny hanasaziana ny mpitondra fanjakana nahavita azy mba hahazoan’ny mavoina rariny sy hitsiny ary hisorohana ny famerenana azy :

« To this day, we hold that a FULL PUBLIC ACCOUNTING OF A PAST REGIME’S CRIMES and the PUNISHMENT of those responsible secures justice for victims, DETERS FUTURE ABUSES , and creates the possibility for true reconciliation. »
